Where in the UK can I get a kit to test for Lead Paint?
I just bought a Victorian house and I'm about to start decorating. I'm worried that stripping the many layers of paint from the door and window frames is going to expose old lead paint which will slowly poison us. I've got a 9 month old son, who will no doubt gobble up any tasty paint chips that fall his way.
I'd like to buy a testing kit, but no-one seems to stock them.
Anyone spotted a stockist, particularly in the London area? Or can anyone suggest a way to identify lead paint, other than to lick it and see how I feel?
B & Q stock kits, and you can also purchase directly from some paint manufacturers, including Kalon.
You can also get laboratory testing done for a completely accurate reading. Full details available from UKAS Telephone: 0208 917 8555, website www.ukas.org
